Tell us a little about yourself…
I am from Glasgow and first fell in love with Australia and especially Broome when I was 21 and travelling around Australia on a working holiday. I have worked in Travel & Tourism since I was 16 years old, so for over 30 years now – working in Scotland, England, Spain and Australia. I’ve had plenty of adventures and fabulous jobs including Duty Airport Manager for Qantas Airways at London Heathrow. It was always my dream to live in Australia and bring my family up here, so I am most appreciative for being able to do that and love Western Australia.
As the Head of Marketing & Communications, what does your job entail?
My job entails looking after all of the marketing for the Willie Creek Pearls Group which across six industries includes: strategy & planning, advertising, media & PR, brand management, campaigns & promotions, sponsorship & philanthropy, design & digital marketing, loyalty programme, social media, business development and event management.
Tell us how you started working for Willie Creek Pearls?
I received a call out of the blue to say you don’t know me, but you keep being recommended to me. Would you be interested in coming to work for Willie Creek Pearls? Having visited the Pearl Farm and advocated Willie Creek Pearls to many Event Managers and Professional Conference Organisers, I was most intrigued to hear all about the position.
What is the best part about your job?
I love what I do; I am very passionate about our product and the excellent service that our fabulous team provide. I enjoy the best of both worlds with being based in Perth, but being able to travel to Broome and the heart of our operation; the Willie Creek Pearl Farm which is such a special place.
What is your favourite thing about working with pearls?
The beauty of them blows my mind and I love that they come from the sea, facing lots of adversity throughout their journey, but in the end producing such a magnificent result
What do you find so special about Australian South Sea Cultured Pearls?
They are the best in the world for a reason – they are simply stunning and very precious.
I enjoy seeing how much delight they bring to our visitors and customers. I love that they are treasured and have special meaning.
What is the most surprising thing you have learnt about Pearls or Pearling?
I never realised how long it took to create such beautiful jewellery and now appreciate the work that goes into looking after the oysters to keep them healthy. Commercial pearling is fascinating, and we are very fortunate to be able to harvest stunning pearls every year.
