Tell us a little about yourself…

I was born in Bermuda to an Australian mother and Scottish father. We relocated to Australia when I was very young and I grew up on the sunny Gold Coast in QLD. In 2014, my husband and I traded the Pacific Ocean for the Indian Ocean with a move to Western Australia. Since arriving on the west coast, we have welcomed two beautiful boys to the world.

I’ve worked in the events, sales & marketing industries for nearly 20 years, predominantly in 4.5- and 5-star hotels in Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia. I’m passionate about creating content and organising bespoke events that wow attendees.

As the Marketing & Communications Officer in Perth, what does your job entail?

Working in the Marketing Team means I’m fortunate to be involved with our full range of marketing and communications functions. Each day is different and could include tasks such as writing award submissions, press releases, blog posts or social media content. Our team could be developing a campaign, or we may be communicating information with our partners, planning an incentive itinerary or managing a bespoke event at one of our great venues.
 
Tell us how you started working for Willie Creek Pearls?

I was moving back to Perth after a brief stay back on the Gold Coast and a maternity coverage role was becoming available in the Marketing Team. I was fortunate to have previously worked for our Head of Marketing & Communications in another organisation and the stars aligned for me to take the role.  I’ve been lucky enough to have now become a permanent team member.
 
What is the best part about your job?

I love writing creative content to share the fascinating world of pearling with our guests. With our range of tour products, amazing locations and beautiful jewellery, there is always a great story to tell.  As a team, we’ve written award winning submissions, exciting media releases and engaging newsletters. I love organising bespoke events at our venues, including our very own annual Pearl Meat Cook Off event at Pearl Luggers, which brings together the best Chefs in Broome to create innovative pearl meat dishes for 300 guests during the Shinju Matsuri festival. The work is fast paced, creative and exciting!
 
What is the toughest part of your job?

Finding new adjectives to describe our beautiful pearls!
 
What is your favourite thing about working with pearls?

Seeing the final jewellery product worn on its new owner. Pearls are so special and to know a piece is going home to be worn with love and then passed down through generations is truly extraordinary.
 
What do you find so special about Australian South Sea Cultured Pearls?

I am always in awe of the ocean, and the way oysters create pearls with the combination of the tides and temperatures is just captivating.
 
What is the most surprising thing you have learnt about Pearls or Pearling?

That pearling involves a significant investment into the husbandry and care of the oysters over a period of years, without a guarantee that a quality pearl will be produced. You never really know what you will find when the oyster is opened!
