Pearl Shell
Cultured Australian South Sea Pearls, are grown in the silver or gold-lipped oyster, Pinctada maxima. The most highly prized of all pearls the maxima is the world’s largest pearl mother and is considered by experts to produce the best pearls in the world.
These cultured pearls are the result of an intricate operation where a spherical nucleus is inserted into the oyster. The shell then coats this nucleus with layers of nacre to produce a pearl. They range in size from 10mm to 20mm but pearls over 17mm are rare. They come in varied shapes and colours and are of such quality that they do not require any treatments such as bleaching
